When I first heard Monte Warden’s “Don’t Know a Thing,” I thought it was the best Buddy Holly song Buddy never wrote. When I decided to record it myself the song took an unexpected turn. My version keeps the melody and joy of early rock ’n’ roll, but it came out more like a British Beat band interpreting Buddy Holly — a little more jangle, drive, and a big beat.
